How to free Wally in Part 5 of Return to Monkey Island

Shortly after going underground, players will encounter Wally hanging precariously over a lava pit. If players had the foresight to write down the serial number of the shackles on the deck of LeChuck’s ship in Part 2, and then had a key made after returning to Melee in the previous part, they can use that key to rescue the map maker and unlock the Free Wally hit free. If not, there is no way to release him and they should just move on.

Shortly after passing Wally, players encounter Flambe, who warns Guybrush that LeChuck is obsessed with the mystery and advises him to turn back. However, the powerful pirate ignores his warning, prompting Flambe to remark that he and LeChuck deserve each other before disappearing into a lava fall. Players can then continue to the right until prompted to take the leap of faith. This leads to a new area and the first of many puzzles in Part 5.

How to solve the organized pirate puzzle in part 5 of Return to Monkey Island

The first puzzle involves Guybrush placing items in the hands of four monkey statues. Players should start by going down the tunnel to the left and place a cracker in the hand of the monkey with the parrot. There is also a coin-like stone pebble on the floor in this room to save for later. Continuing to the left players will find another statue missing its knife and another one pebble left behind a rock.

The next room contains a statue of a monkey looking into the distance. It looks like it’s meant to hold a telescope, but since players don’t have one in their inventory, they should use the part 1 double monocle instead. In the last room, players will find a funny looking monkey and should take the cup in his hand to complete the puzzle.

Before heading down the now unlocked staircase, players should retrieve their four items. In fact, that’s all they need A cup and the knife, but there’s no harm in grabbing the cracker and monocles as well. You should also make a note of the icon above the door as you will need it later. Like many other puzzles in Return to Monkey Islandit changes from playthrough to playthrough so players can’t check online.

How to solve the Observant Pirate puzzle in Part 5 of Return to Monkey Island

After LeChuck hears Guybrush scream, the evil ghost pirate will pull the lever again, starting a new monkey statue-related challenge. This time, players must note the status of the three monkeys and place the correct number of coins (or pebbles) in their boxes to advance. The captain needs three coins, the first swab needs two, and the cabin monkey needs one, meaning players need six of them in total.

Find players a pebble in the room at the bottom of the stairs and should then go through the tunnel to the right. You’ll want to toss two pebbles into the Captain statue’s chest here, as well as the last coin in Guybrush’s purse, while also making sure to grab those pebble past the exit on the right. Going through this exit will take you to the First Swab statue, where players should place their last two remaining pebbles.

The last room contains the statue of the cottage monkey and a single one pebble surrounded by mushrooms on the ground in front. Placing this pebble in the monkey’s humble chest will complete the puzzle, allowing players to delve deeper into the depths of Monkey Island. Again, players should pay attention to the icon above the door leading there, which this time should look a bit like a mouth.

How to solve the bloodthirsty pirates puzzle in part 5 of Return to Monkey Island

After Guybrush again alerted LeChuck to his presence, he faces another big one monkey island Puzzle. Thankfully, this one is a lot easier than the last two, although players will need the mug and knife. So if you haven’t picked them up earlier, you’ll have to go back to the first floor to do so. Assuming you’ve already grabbed them, you can head straight through the tunnel to the right to get started.

Players should use the knife to stab the first monkey statue in the arm, and then use the empty grog mug to collect some of the black substance that oozes out. In the next chamber, have them stab the monkey statue in the leg and then move on to the last chamber. Whatever statue was here has been destroyed, but players can bypass this by emptying the cup into the grate in front of where the statue once stood. You can then go down to the last level and remember the four digit number above the door.

How to solve the stone wheel puzzle in part 5 of Return to Monkey Island

After a short cutscene, LeChuck goes through the door, which resets the Stone Wheel puzzle he’s been struggling with for the past ten minutes. That’s okay though, as players have everything they need to solve it relatively quickly provided they’ve made note of the markings above the doors leading down here. As mentioned above, these will vary from playthrough to playthrough, so players will need to make note of their own rather than relying on the image above.

Before players interact with the Ferris wheel, they should look at the stone slab sticking out of the lava in the lower right of the screen. Its inscription reads “After 4 extra years out at sea, their wooden legs getting weak in the knees, 3 steps right, but 2 left until they fell off the deck and hit Davy Jones on a tee.” This shows that players must change the number on the giant stone wheel 4 times, the inner wheel 2 times, and the outer wheel 3 times.

It’s not quite that simple, however, as players must first reset the wheel using the information they’ve gathered from the doors on their way down. After that, they can follow the instructions above to solve the puzzle, allowing Guybrush to drive through the door behind the wheel and eventually discover the mystery of Monkey Island.

How to find the secret of Monkey Island

Similar to the end monkey island 2, the door takes players to an amusement park-like representation of Melee Island, featuring animatronic figures of some of the series’ key characters. After seizing the Popcorn From the ground in front of them, players should exit the alley, resulting in Stan giving Guybrush a set key and told him to lock up.

Players can then go left and grab those button from the hand of the animatronic locksmith and use it to open the chest with the secret. After more than three decades, the secret of Monkey Island has been found to be a cotton t shirtsimilar to the Melee Island Treasure in the very first one monkey island Game.

After looking around for a moment, players should use Stan’s keys to turn off all the lights, then talk to Elaine when they’re finally ready to leave. In the present day there is then some more dialogue with young Guybrush, after which the credits roll and the game comes to a thought provoking ending. Once it’s all over, players can search the scrapbook from the main menu for a letter from the game’s creators.

Return to Monkey Island is available now for PC and Nintendo Switch.
