Netflix has released the trailer for “Bright: Samurai Soul” a surprise new animated adventure feature that is a sort of prequel set in the same world as its 2016 live-action ‘cops & orcs’ film “Bright” starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
The action unfolds in Japan during the end of the Shogunate and the beginning of the Meiji period and incorporates an animation style fusing CG with Japanese woodblock print art.
Directed by Kyohei Ishiguro and written by Michiko Yokote, the project stars “Shang-Chi” himself Simu Liu serving as the voice of You, a one-eyed samurai who goes on a mission with an orc named Raiden (Fred Mancuso) and an elf girl (Yuzu Harada) in possession of a magic wand.
Standing in their path is the mysterious organization Inferni, which aims to obtain the wand and revive the Dark Lord, who intends to rule all of creation.
“Bright: Samurai Soul” arrives on Netflix on October 12th.
